The Teaching Start-Up Grant project Visual Music - Music Visuals, for Performance and Exhibition gives SCM students the opportunity to create music-related abstract animation sequences for electronic and classical music, for outside clients-collaborators, through the undergraduate course SM3717 Special Topics in Animation, in Semester B 2015/2016 and Semester A 2016/2017. These works will be presented in two versions, first at live concerts - for the first course at HKAPA and CityU, for the second course at Clockenflap Festival - and subsequently as exhibitable standalone pieces, at K11 Hong Kong Art Mall and at Punto y Raya Festival 2016 at ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany. The works will furthermore be submitted to a wide range of international film, animation and media art festivals, each batch to 40-50 festivals. This leads to the creation of new knowledge and artworks, raises the profile of SCM and CityU, and teaches students to think as artists and creative media creators who contribute to the culture at large. The findings of this project will form the basis of an academic paper to be published in a peer-reviewed academic journal, the interim results of which will also be presented by the PI at Punto y Raya Festival 2016.en_US
