dc.description.abstract | In modern wireless router applications, antennas using omnidirectional radiation pattern will be chosen because they can provide full coverage to every corner of the indoor area. Dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is having an advantage for its size, low loss and high efficiency making it an encouraging candidate for modern communications. The polarization diversity can be achieved by dual-polarization design. In this project, an omnidirectional dual-polarized glass DRA is presented. The dielectric resonator antenna is operated at its TM01δ and TE01δ mode for its omnidirectional linear polarized (LP) radiation pattern. It produces its omnidirectional vertically and horizontally polarized fields respectively at ~2.4 GHz for the WLAN band. The TM01δ mode of the conventional probe excitation is replaced by a microstrip end-shorted crosspatch, which acts as folded monopole forming an equivalent electric monopole. On the other hand, the TE01δ mode is excited by four arc strips. The four arc strips form an equivalent magnetic dipole to generate the omnidirectional radiation pattern with horizontal polarization. Finally, the proposed glass antenna is placed on the FR4 material with the wireless router circuitry. | en_US |
