Data Visualisation on Metagenomics Data

Abstract

Metagenomics is a technique to extract and clone the DNA from different kinds of microorganisms, in order to study the microbes in their natural living environment. The common techniques used to study Metagenomics is shotgun and PCR sequencing. Although these techniques are able to retrieve data for study, the amount of data retrieved is not enough. In order to retrieve enough data and present the whole genome shotgun metagenomics analysis results. This project aims to build a platform to present the data in a visible way with bioinformatics analysis technology. Regarding to the weaknesses of shotgun and PCR sequencing, data visualisation has been chosen to present data in a visible way. Therefore, the whole genome shotgun metagenomics analysis result can be shown comprehensively. The project aims to build a platform to fulfill these requirements. A platform has been developed by our supervisor Dr. Li, BTDraw. This platform is developed by Dr. Li and his students, it is a well-structured platform to perform data visualisation on metagenomic analysis. This platform was developed to be web-based so that the platform is cross-platform and can be easily accessed by different users. As this platform is still in development stage, this project aims to get involved into the development of this platform. Our team are responsible on constructing different types of graphs for the metagenomics analysis and develop suitable additional function for user perform minor adjustment with the generated graphs.
