Abstract: | Safeguarding home and small medium enterprise networks has always been an essential step to protect users’ property and privacy. Therefore, it is important to look into the significance of home and SME networks, especially IoT and smart devices have gain much in popularity these years. Current firewalls and antivirus software might offer good protection against common attacks and viruses towards a host. However, some network vulnerabilities still exist due to mis-configurations, or outdated software, which is relatively difficult to be discovered. Today, most of the vulnerability scanners, such as Nessus, OpenVAS, are designed to perform scanning for the vulnerabilities require users have some knowledge of networking and configuration of the scanning could be complex and difficult to normal users. The purpose of this project is to develop a portable vulnerability assessment scanner that allows user without networking background can perform vulnerability assessment through automated process and simple user interface. In the project, the scanning process is automated since most of the work is done in background. Afterwards, the result with suggested countermeasure will be available to user in various format in order to assist users fix any weaknesses found in the network effectively. |
