Abstract: | Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) has been widely used in wireless communication since its low radiation loss, reduced fabrication size and its good transition quality. On the other hand, SIW in TE20 mode is widely chosen in high frequency wireless communication field because of its simplified structure and enhanced stability by a relaxed fabrication tolerance. In this report, a 60 GHz substrate integrated slot antenna array in TE20 mode with a gain enhancement is represented. The TE20 in the bottom substrate will be excited by using aperture coupling fed by a microstrip line on the top of substrate. In order to modify its gain performance, the antenna is designed to be in a cross structure so that four more slots on along the x-axis can be added on the antenna. The transition modes of this antenna consist of TEM mode in microstrip line, TE10 mode in the vertical cavity and TE20 in the horizontal cavity. Compared the simulated result with previous research work, a 3 dB gain enhancement was achieved from 57 GHz to 64 GHz, which is also the 60 GHz antenna working frequency range. Thus this antenna is capable to 60 GHz wireless communication. |
