Abstract: | In this final year project, an isolated glass dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with omnidirectional radiation pattern is designed and implemented. The aim of this project is to design an antenna for in-home Wi-Fi use with decorative feature, and the antenna is placed on desk, so having omnidirectional radiation pattern is desired. The dielectric resonator (DR) is in rectangular shape and operates analogously to TM011 mode of a cylindrical DRA. The square flange of the SMA connector placing at the centre bottom of the DR works as the small ground plane, and the probe extending from the SMA connector is used to excite the DR. To make the glass DR more aesthetically pleasing, it is engraved with 3D images using laser, and its edges are chamfered. The glass DR is placed on top of a cylindrical lamp base, and it can rotate with the base. The base has functions of LED decoration, MP3 player, rotating plate, and remote control. A Wi-Fi module circuit is added into the base and connected to the DRA. The lamp base and the Wi-Fi module are purchased commercially, and they are modified to fit. The antenna is simulated using HFSS and is experimentally measured. And the complete system is demonstrated to work properly. |
