Abstract: For students who are learning the piano, they have to pay efforts on practicing. However, many of them may find difficulties that do not know the key for practicing piano effectively. It could bring them a bad habit of playing the piano. This would cause them more time to make a progress, and their passion may be waned. According to the principles for practicing the piano, students have to familiar with the songs, need to identify the mistakes during practicing, have to make practice records for reviewing improvements. They also can follow a guide to practice the piano effectively. In other words, they can practice the piano systematically, including practicing slowly, individual hand practice, focusing on difficult parts, etc. There are various kinds of piano learning applications on different device. After doing the researches and comparing several applications, we found that although the applications are quite comprehensive, they still have rooms to improve. The project will focus on making some enhancements on the common existing piano practicing tools, including letting users to import sheet music score in MusicXML format, to provide accuracy checking and mistakes review for users, enhance zoom function and make the application support both vertical and horizontal support. This project aims at proposing techniques for producing and enhancing these kinds of music applications. Then to develop a music score reader and piano practicing tool, supporting different devices, including Windows, Mac OS, iPad, iPhone, Android tablet and smartphones. The user can import music score, view practice record and read music score in the apps. They can review the demo, adjust speed, record sound, use metronome and jot notes on the music sheet. During practicing, user can view the practice report and save it for record.
