Abstract: | IEEE802.11 consists of two kinds of channel accessing mode, distributed coordination function (DCF) and point coordination function (PCF). In DCF, stations access the channel based on CSMA/CA and random back off scheme. In PCF, polling mechanism provided by the access point (AP) determines which nodes is allowed to use the channel. In this paper, I will compare the performance of both them and show that DCF is efficient in the case that the number of stations is small, while PCF is more suitable to be used in heavy-loaded traffic. Also, I will optimize the polling mechanism to give a better performance. The implementation is done on network simulator NS2 and the result is analyzed using AWK and MATLAB. |
