Abstract: | The need for humans to understand, respond to and alter their impacts on the natural systems of the planet is immediate and unprecedented. The current and future generations of students graduating from City University of Hong Kong and all other institutions of higher learning, will be faced with the challenge to re-think, re-design and re-create how humans utilize all the major natural resource based systems on earth, which equipped with DEC elements. Cortese (1999) notes that institutions of higher learning will need to embrace interdisciplinary approaches and transform themselves such that they operate as fully integrated communities that model social and biological sustainability and its interdependence with the local, regional and global community. |
