Title: | Developing Critical Reasoning Skills in Gateway Education Courses |
Department: | Department of Public Policy (POL) |
Principal Investigator: | Harris, Eirik Lang |
Issue Date: | 14-Aug-2015 |
Commencement Date: | 1-Jan-2013 |
Completion Date: | 30-Jun-2014 |
Abstract: | To develop a set of critical reasoning modules that can be used in a variety of settings. This would consist in the development of two three-hour lectures laying the basics of critical reasoning, including questions such as "What is an argument?", "What makes for a good argument?", "How do good arguments go bad", "How to decipher complex arguments within longer texts", etc. It is hoped that students will not only be able to more fully and critically engage with the material covered in the courses but that they will be able to take these skills and apply them to their other courses. |
