dc.description.abstract | Palm reading is a practice for Chinese to make guesses on life and personality, and some of its theories can be transformed to computational algorithms. Several Android mobile applications are developed for this project. The first app is the basic version of palm reading app, which allows users to take a hand photo and draw their principle lines. The app then analyzes it using mathematical method and provides a text analysis result, which can be shared onto Facebook through the app afterwards. The second app, which is the advanced version of palm reading app, provides automatic recognition of palm features and more detailed result in addition to the first app. Image processing technique was used to extract features such as palm lines, fingertips and palm shapes. The third app is the palm reading e-book app, which comprises of palm knowledge articles and basic e-book features such as zooming. The first two apps are developed as a native Android app, and the e-book app was developed using a web cross-platform approach. The automatic recognition feature was implemented as a C++ cross-platform library, and linked to the Android app natively through Android NDK. These three apps are usable mobile applications after 6 months of development phrase, and the app can extract hand shapes and principal lines automatically under some conditions. The application of palm features extraction can be extended to health analysis and biometric identification. The cross-platform approach and the library linking technique may help future mobile application projects as well. | en_US |
