Abstract: Teachers usually teach what they have learned from their own studies or what they havediscovered in researches based on their interests, with or without checking if their teaching helps students acquire the key competencies needed to succeed when entering workplaces. Over 2,000 undergraduates from the Department of Public and Social Administration (SA) are now working in a wide range of organisations and they are an invaluable asset that can help SA improve its teaching and promote a Discovery-Enriched Curriculum (DEC). This project seeks to locate all available SA alumni, connect them with current SA students, identify their job/career profile, assemble their assessment of important core competencies for success in their job and workplace, and construct a Core Competencies Chronicle based on the actual needs of their workplaces. After completion of the Chronicle and construction of a working network with SA alumni, follow-up projects can be conducted like using the Chronicle for improving alignment of SA courses with workplace requirements or conducting other discovery projects for the benefits of SA students, alumni, and the Hong Kong society as a whole."
