Abstract: | Wideband dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is designed and studied. The operating frequency bands are 1.99-2.2 GHz (UMTS), 2.4-2.5GHz (WLAN) and 3.3-3.7GHz (WiMAX). The fabricated DRA should have a wide bandwidth and good radiation patterns over the operating frequencies. In this project, a rectangular shape DRA is a major concern. Its dimension can be obtained from a list of equations which is related to resonance frequencies of corresponding modes of the rectangular DRA. The DRA is fed by conformal-strip for convenience. Actually, this simple rectangular shape DRA has a %bandwidth about 30%. To further wider the bandwidth of the DRA, a semi-cylinder notch is added between the dielectric material (DR) and ground plane. After notching, various parameters including DR dimension and length of the feeding strip would be adjusted. The final %bandwidth is about 70%. Moreover, other shapes of DRA with other feeding methods are also studied and mentioned briefly. The simulated S11, radiation pattern and gain of the antenna are obtained by software called HFSS. The measurement results of the fabricated DRA are coherent to the simulation results. Throughout the project, the techniques and progress will be evaluated and discussed. |
