Abstract: This project aims to simulate what people with color blindness see. Computer displays color using RGB values, but human color vision is perceived as LMS values by the cone cells. By using the International Telecommunication Union ITU-R BT.709 standard, Judd-Vos colorimetric modification, the transformation matrix of RGB values to XYZ space is obtained, then with the matrix for XYZ space to LMS space by Smith and Pokorny, a general transformation matrix for RGB values to LMS space is obtained. Then using algorithm suggested by Hans Brettel, Francoise Viénot, John D. Mollon, the perceptible LMS values of color blindness lie on a plane, by projecting the normal LMS values onto the plane and then transform back to the RGB values, the color blindness version of the image is obtained. This project uses a webpage for inputting the image to be simulated and display results. A servlet which uses java is built for handing the upload, download files, simulation of the image and display results. A web server is created by using Tomcat. The webpage collaborate with the servlet in the web server to provide the simulation.
