Abstract: Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) [1] is an important parameter for human safety. It is a measure of radiation energy when human beings exposed to radio frequency. There has been a research on SARs of human body at different radio frequency (up to 300GHz) established by the International Commission on Non-ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) [2] and IEEE C95.1 [3]. However, there is little research particularly related to the SARs inside automobile especially in a multiple sources environment. In my Final Year Project, the investigation on the SAR distribution of the human body in a semi-enclosed metallic environment with multiple radiation sources was carried out. Commercial software called Zealand was used to perform the simulation on the SAR distribution of the human body based on the Finite-difference Time Domain method. Different scenarios with passengers at different locations and mobile phones operating at different frequencies were simulated. Results were found that the maximum SAR of the passengers when mobile phones were operating in different frequencies is greater than those operating at the same frequency.
