Development of an e-learning platform

Abstract

Mobile learning and e-learning have gained a great growth in recent years. One of the reasons is the advance of Web and mobile devices. To utilize the advantages of mobile learning and e-learning, new Web technologies should be introduced. HTML5 introduces many cutting-edge features. For instance, the video and audio elements improve the media support for Web. For the older standard, such media are supported by Flash. Now, HTML5 introduces the native support of media playback in modern browsers. In this project, HTML5 is used to develop a web-based e-learning platform. With the support of HTML5, the e-learning platform can provide a better user experience that users can easily get started with their browsers of mobile devices or computers without installing any other plug-ins. Also, since there are not many tools for teachers to create teaching materials, the platform is mostly focused on the tools for them. For example, there is a tool to add captions and checkpoints in a video.
