Abstract: | According to the statistics from Transport Department, there are 195,0001parking spaces for the public use while the numbers of registered private cars are 567,8862. With the increasing number of new registration at around 50,0003 per year, the demand for parking spaces is definitely much more than the supply of parking spaces. This situation would be even worse when it is in weekend. When a lot of cars waiting outside of the car park, it would cause traffic congestion if the cars are waiting on main roads and sometimes block the traffic. Apart from traffic congestion, some related problems like air pollution and extra fuels consumption would be the problems if the cars are waiting parking spaces for long time. Obviously, the parking spaces supply could not be increased immediately as the land supply is limited. It requires proper urban planning and coordinating, which would take for a long time. However, if the utilization of car parks could be maximized, the traffic congestion problem could hence be relieved. In order to maximize the efficiency on the use of parking spaces, developing an application for the drivers which include parking spaces reservation feature in case they request for the parking spaces would be useful. At the same time, they could find available car parks in the same area so that they could make alternative choices for parking. The staff from car park could monitor the car park in real time. Also, they could check the daily usage of parking spaces in order to offer discount or make regulation during the peak hours or off-peak. Hence, the aim of the project is to create an application that could handle the user requests upon searching the available car park nearby, reserving a parking space and checking their history of parking. At the same time, the staff of car park could perform basic management of car park in daily use. |
