This project aims at determining the depth of objects from the camera using the shape from focus technique. 12 photographs with known focal length are taken using Nixon D7000 camera. The information is used to compute the distance between the camera and the object. The characteristic edge points are found by using Sobel edge detection, the amplitude of each point in each photographs and the focal length are used to compute the depth. The result can be represented in a 2-D graphic or 3-D dense depth map which interpolation is used to compute the other point. The method has been tested on 9 scenarios involving 6 indoor scenes and 3 outdoor scenes. The result showed that the method can estimate good relative depth relationships.en_US
