An ultra-wide band 180º monolithic microwave/millimeter wave integrated circuit (MMIC) phase shifter has been designed. PIN diodes, via holes and parallel strip-lines (PSL) are employed to implement the phase shifter. A constant and frequency-independent phase shift can be obtained by swapping the positive and negative signal lines of PSL through via holes. The PIN diodes are used as electronic switches which are operating between forward and reverse bias states. Also, PIN diodes are the control devices for this phase shifter. When the on/off states of the PIN diodes are inter-changed, an 180deg phase shift will be obtained. In order to achieve low insertion-loss, open circuit stubs are added to compensate the inductive effect of via holes.en_US
