Title: Investigation of tunable optical waveguide filter using long-period grating
Authors: Fung, Wai Hang
Department: Department of Electronic Engineering
Issue Date: 2005
Supervisor: Dr. Chan, Andy Hau Ping. Assessor: Dr. Chow, Yuk Tak
Abstract: The aim of the project is to investigate the design and fabrication processes of the long-period waveguide grating (LPWG) filter which will be applied in the modern optical network. The designed filter is aimed to work for the signal extraction in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based optical communication network. It is fabricated using BCB and epoxy polymer materials with silica on silicon material used as a device substrate. Experimental results of the fabricated devices will be presented. Moreover, the feasibility of tuning the resonance wavelength of the filter using thermo-optic effect is also discussed.
