With the rapidly growth of Computer Graphic technology, virtual scenes, objects and animations can be generated and distributed freely on the Internet. However, these kind of virtual designs are mainly focus on Computer Games, and simulation of real world environment is relatively scare. However such demand is increasing with the desire of people to inspect items prior to purchasing, or preview places before visiting them. The introduction of the Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML) in the past decade is likely to initiate collaborative effects in generating virtual scenes that are more related to our everyday life. We anticipate that in the foreseeable future population at large will be able to design and distribute their cyber-works with such ease as posting video clips on the Youtube. In this final year project, an attempt is made to construct a virtual world for attracting tourists to visit Hong Kong. The project aims at developing a 3D virtual world of the Ngong Ping 360 based on VRML, with the hope that it will revive the confidence of local and overseas tourists to take the cable cars again after the series of accidents in the last few years. The Ngong Ping 360 is divided into 4 parts namely the Cable Car stations, the Cable Car part, the Ngong Ping Village and the Tian Tan Buddha Statue. My part is to build the Ngong Ping Village including the “Walking with Buddha”, “Monkey’s Tale Theatre”, “Ngong Ping Tea House”, Bodhi Tree and the shops in the village.en_US
