Lossless image compression is one of the important topics in compression area. In this project, lossless image compression will achieved by combining lossy compression, JPEG, and lossless compression, arithmetic coding. The image will first compress by JPEG and store it. The JPEG file will then decompressed it, and subtracted it from original image. Since JPEG is lossy, the decompressed image will be slightly different from original image. The residual image will compressed by arithmetic coding. Arithmetic coding has used the model of context-based adaptive binary model to increase the compression efficiency. The combination of JPEG file and compressed residual data will achieve the lossless compression. In the project, the compression ratio of the image is about 60% of original image. The context-based approach of arithmetic coding can help to increase the efficiency of about 2%.en_US
