Abstract: | Nowadays, mobile communications including both handset and base station applications are continuously demanding multi-band and wide-band properties of antenna. Besides the requirement of bandwidth, the small size is also desired as the space available for their installations is limited. In this project, two small monopole antennas are presented for both handset and base station applications respectively. For the handset application, a novel three-dimensional monopole antenna is studied and modified. The proposed antenna has multi-band and wide-band properties that cover most frequency bands being used for the handset devices. The antenna has remarkable features while occupying a significantly small space, which makes it very suitable for handset applications. For the base station application, a folded feed L-slot folded patch antenna is presented. It consists of an L-slot folded patch that is shorted to the ground plane by a metallic patch and is fed by a “folded feed” structure. This antenna has impedance bandwidth of 133.3% for VSWR is less than 2. As the proposed antenna can achieve such wide impedance bandwidth, it is a strong candidate for the wireless communication systems nowadays. |
