Abstract: | Base on a set of HID (high intensity discharge) lamp model equations, build up a general and user-friendly HPS (high pressure sodium) lamp model for predicting the terminal characteristic (especially the voltage and current performance) of high pressure sodium lamps in different operating frequency and dimming condition. This model can be applied in the territories of HPS lamp ballast circuit design and optimizing the product design of HPS lamps. Firstly, a simple and basic experimental measurement of the HPS lamp will be performed without manufacturers’ confidential data. The HPS lamp model which optimized by GA (genetic algorithm) will be developed based on the previous experimental measurement of the lamp characteristics. Six model parameters of the model equations can be optimized by a GA program. According to these model parameters, use PSPICE to set up HPS lamp model for simulating the lamp electrical characteristics under different operating frequencies and dimming condition. Finally, for verifying the simulation of PSPICE, an electronic ballast circuit was built for driving the HPS lamp. By using this lamp circuit, obtain the actual operating performing result of the lamp for comparing the lamp characteristics between experimental result and simulation. |
