Abstract: The project aims to implement the High Dynamic Range (HDR) image processing technique to recover the missing details of the image. Due to the limitation of the Charge Coupled Device (CCD) image sensor, the details of the image for the over and under area are lost. Although some image editing softwares, such as PhotoShop, Nikon Capture, Canon DPP and so on are allowed RAW file format which offered by Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera (DSLR) to recover part of the details by adjusting the EV, not for the dynamic range. Thus, there are huge potential for the photograph market to create a software application which can solve this problem and regain these missing details. In order to achieve the HDR image processing technique to get back the lost details of the image, four steps should be done gradually, they are: layer merging among R, G and B layer from -2 exposure value to +2 exposure value, edges averaging, contrast correction and opacity merging. For this application, some parameters can be adjust by the user, for example, threshold value for each layer merging, contrast correction and opacity merging and an instant image is available for the user to preview the change of the image. After the above serial operation of merging, missing details of the image can be retrieved. The quality of image can also be improved by adjusting the parameters or fine tuning.
