dc.description.abstractChinese information processing is the processing on Chinese characters based on its structure, meaning and pronunciation. It computerizes Chinese information and used by wide variety of applications. It concerns the display of Chinese information and also the communication between user and computer, or user and other users. Early in 1960, IBM spent 10 years in researching the possibility of using computer for computing Chinese information. Although the result showed it was impossible to compute Chinese information, many Chinese computer scientists started to develop and analyze Chinese characters. In 1976, Zhu Bang-Fu (朱邦復) proved the possibility of using a group of “Chinese Alphabets” that mapped on QWERT keyboard, to encode Chinese characters. This leaded to the first Cangjie (倉頡) Chinese input method founded in 1978. The Chinese input method refers to the computing method of Chinese characters into computer by using certain techniques of encoding Chinese characters. Chinese characters are pre-encoded, e.g., Big5 for Traditional Chinese character. The code set allow information interchange that computer can process Chinese characters into binary form and display them on screen or transmit them for communication. Concerning the rules in pre-defining the input codes such that it can be recognized by computer for further interpretation, different types of Chinese input method were developed. Today, the Chinese input method is still a concern on desktop or laptop computers, and also other digital devices like mobile phone.en_US
