Nominated as OAPS (Outstanding Academic Papers by Students) paper by Department in 2008-09.
This project is to investigate of the gas discharge lamp modeling technique. Basically, it is concentrated on the study of low-pressure discharge lamp (fluorescent lamp). The model built can be used for the lamp driven by magnetic ballast and electronic ballast. The recent research showed that the non-linear behavior of the gas discharge lamp can be represented by five physical equations which are consisted of seven adjustable model constants. After measuring the experiment lamp voltage and current characteristics at 50Hz, Genetic Algorithm is used to found the optimum value of the seven constants. The lamp model can be built in PSpice or any CAD software, then the accuracy can be tested by comparing the experimental result and simulation result. This project is also involved the study of the model constants during dimming situation. The change of the adjustable model constants in different rated power were recorded, and tried to analyze the physical meaning of them. A good model is very useful in design the lamp ballast circuit.en_US
