Abstract: For mobile radios, high-efficiency and low-distortion amplification is a basic requirement for non-constant envelope modulation. The proposed technique, self-adaptive bias network, is used for microwave power amplifiers. This approach integrates both self-adaptive current and voltage biasing. It not only manipulates the position of the third-order inter-modulation distortion (IMD3) minimum dynamically, but also manages the DC bias power of the power amplifier adaptively. Experimental two-tone is used for showing the efficiency of proposed approach. For the operation power ranging from 8dBm to 13dBm, a constant IMD3 of -25dBm with above 25% of DC-to-RF conversion efficiency are achieved in a 1.95GHz Class A power amplifier.
