Abstract: | Hong Kong is a metropolitan city; mobile phones become an essential tool for connecting people nowadays. In recent years more research has been done to concern about the possible health effects of exposure to radio frequency radiation under different situation. Due to the environmental factor, more building in Hong Kong is high-rise building. Elevators are widely used for transferring people from one floor to another floor. Because of elevator is a fully metallic enclosure, the emission power of mobile phone will greatly increase for compensate the poor reception of the signal from base station. In general elevator’s wall usually made of metallic material; it acts as a metallic resonant cavity with high Q factor. This cavity store electric and magnetic field and reflect causing resonance. The resonance effect might cause the field magnitude to increase at certain locations which drawn the attention of this project. In this project, a numerical study on the effect of radiation from mobile phone to human body inside metallic elevator is presented. The investigations of the effect of elevator’s dimension, mobile phone position, material of elevator, field distribution of different parts of body on SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) are included in this project. Numerical results have showed that the peak of SAR increase by 24% when using the mobile phone inside elevator compare in free space. The simulated results have also found that at elevator size in 1.2m, the maximum value of SAR is the highest. |
