dc.description.abstractWith the introduction of the CEPA scheme between Hong Kong and China, and with the appearance of some fatal virus like H5N1 in the Asian countries, there has been a surging need for the video security and conferencing system in recent years. However, most of the systems in the market are either expensive or inflexible. As a result, this project aims to provide an integrated H.323 based video security software called “SpyPhone” to some small to medium sized companies at a very reasonable cost. Spyphone will run on Linux platform for supporting both remote video monitoring and videoconferencing application. As the core codec of the system is based on the ITU H.323 videoconferencing standard, the system could communicate with most of the popular videoconferencing applications on different platforms such as the NetMeeting of MS-Window, the GnomeMeeting on Linux and the third generation mobile phone. The project is divided into a few stages. The first stage is to build a professional graphical user interface to the end users. The second stage is to develop some video security features like Multipoint video-monitoring, VPN, SSH encryption and authentication, motion detection and video recording. Finally, features like Digital PBX system and VOIP using analog phones are to be developed.en_US
