Abstract: Applications of Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRA) have been a hot research topic for many years. In order to be installed in a mobile phone, the DRA must have small size and wide bandwidth. In this project, cylindrical shape DR antenna which is fed with a coaxial probe is of major concern. Several methods of lowering down the resonance frequency of a DRA without changing the size are presented. Furthermore, means of increasing the bandwidth of DRAs are also included. For increasing the sensitivity, two DR antennas should be used in the mobile phone. However, coupling effect is the major problem to be solved. So minimizing coupling effect and establishing the best locations of the two DRs are studied. By using the commercial software, two types of prototype antennas are designed. The first one is monopole antenna which can be used as an indoor base station antenna. The other one is a circular polarized antenna, which can be used for outdoor receiving function.
