Location based informative mobile map application system

Abstract

Web mapping is useful media to show spatial information and tools for users to get geographic location information. For example, searching public library, market or any point of interest in a district area. It is prevalent in many mobile device and desktop application to provide similar functions. Using GPS or SIM card LBS location based service, we can get our current location coordinates which attracts the development of various map applications. The project will explore the current web mapping technology and GIS applications in the world. For example, Google AJAX maps, OGC mapping tools and well-known mobile map software etc. Since wireless network technology has greatly improved, it will implement a GPS location based mobile mapping application for searching surrounding real time and dynamic information via GPRS or Wi-Fi wireless network. By using map database published by SMO/Lands Department of HKSAR, additional functions, such as pathfinding, location tracking functions are also implemented. The project is in order to contribute idea to GIS research community and provide informative, interactive and user-friendly interface of map application for mobile users via wireless network.
