Mobile phones are widely used for wireless communication nowadays. There is a great concern on radio frequency human safety of using mobile phone. In modern city like Hong Kong, high-rise buildings are very common. Elevators are frequently used in our daily life. Owing to the advancement of wireless technology, mobile phone could be used inside elevator in resent years. In general, elevators’ walls are made by metallic material. Since it can reflect electromagnetic field, there will be multiple reflections of electromagnetic field inside metallic enclosures causing resonance. The resonance effect might cause the field magnitude to increase at certain locations which gives the attention of this project. In this project, a numerical study on the effect of radiation from mobile phone inside metallic elevator is presented. The investigations of the effect of human capacity, mobile phone position, multiple sources and elevator dimension on SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) are included in this project. Numerical results have showed that the maximum value of SAR averaged over 1g of tissue is increased by 23% when the mobile phone is placed 3cm away from the wall. The measured and simulated results have showed that when a mobile phone is in use, the E-field level inside the metallic enclosure decrease as the number of people increases inside elevator.en
