Abstract: | Mifare Technology is getting more and more popular nowadays for physical access control because of its high “security to price” ratio. With dual key function of the Mifare technology, we can easily ensure the data security inside the card. Moreover, nearly all the Mifare reader offered in HK market employ traditional MCU controller which can only read the Serial Number (Weigand 34 bits output) as a key. As a result, the features of the smart card function of Mifare technology may not be fully utilized. This is because of the high complexity of the Mifare Protocol, which can only be fully utilized with PC. However, there are a lot of disadvantages in using PC as controller. These problems include size problem, high power usage, no standardize configure of hardware, stability, etc. As a result, most of the developers give up the idea of using PC as the control by scarifying a lot of advance Mifare features. To compromise the above two conflicting issues, there are a need to develop stand-alone low-cost smart controller in order to further advance the competitive edge of Mifare Technology System. Using ARM9 Embedded Linux Broad will be a highly feasible solution to tackle the entire problem. The advantages of ARM9 include low power usage, small size, stable and, flexible development platform, multifunction IO and drivers, etc. As a result, ARM9 Embedded Linux Broad is very suitable candidate for the development of this kind of smart controller system. With the flexibility of ARM9, many others advanced feathers may also be implementing together with Mifare system, such as Video surveillance, Website service, Image logging, Local Touch Screen control, local and remote relay control. Further, this ARM9 embedded system based may offer a much greater flexibility for future upgrade. I expect that it has a very strong potential to replace the tradition MCU based reader system in coming future. In my project, I have successfully implemented a full-functioned Security System using Mifare technology with ARM9 embedded system, which offers a wide range of features mentioned above. |
