Abstract: | Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) architecture is a peer-to-peer device. It connects personal computers (PCs), Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and consumer electronics (CEs) in a home network to share multimedia data. The UPnP architecture is based on numbers of standard protocols, such as SOAP, XML and HTTP. The objective of the project is to develop a music player system based on UPnP. The system consists of a media server and multiple clients (media renderers). The system supports multiple renderers, which provide a user friendly interface and an advanced searching feature, simultaneously. It manages music files, records all renderers' log and generates statistic reports. As it is a joint-project involving two students, my contribution is to develop a media server. It serves multiple clients concurrently, provides advanced searching of music contents and records all clients' history such as play lists. Besides, the server detects and updates new music files automatically and generates statistic reports. Cyberlink development system and MySQL software are used in server implementation. Cyberlink is a java development package that controls these standard protocols automatically and creates a server device. MySQL provides information storage and query requests. |
