dc.description.abstract"Analyzing and composing popular music system” is a program designated to help various musicians to write popular music. Based on music theory and phonetic rules, the program can help composing melody and lyrics by way of generating useful words or phrases. This can tremendously ease the workload and enhance the creativity of musicians. The project basically involves analyzing a melody to generate suitable words to be used for composing lyrics and on the contrary analyzing the lyrics to generate a melody. To do this, text files or MIDI files should be inputted into the program first so that it can analyze and translate them into an effective and systematic Chinese numbered-musical notation (music-sheet). Then the users can edit the melody or lyrics by using the numbered-musical notation editor. As the relationship between musical structure (intervals) and the Chinese language usage (word tones) is found, the program can hence search for suitable words or phrases in the database to fit into a song. By using this program, many alternatives are available for users to choose, with the most appropriate words or phrase being sorted first. As similar programs have not yet been developed in the music industry, it is worth exploring this new dimension of lyrics composing.
